PreSeparator Power Supply Local Reset Instructions
If the Pre-Sep P/S trips off due to high currents a local reset is needed
There are rare occasions when the Pre-Separator Power Supply will need to be reset in the Mass Separator Room. The usual cause is when the magnet has been running at max current (~250A) for more than a few minutes a temperature interlock will trip preventing overheating. This condition can arise when delivering high mass isotopes or when the mass change program is scaling in the high mass region.
These trips will require a local reset of the power supply before operation can be restored. The button that needs to be pressed is internal to the P/S cabinet necessitating the lockout of the AC supply switch.
A local reset of the supply is needed and the following steps should be taken:
1.Bring a lock, lockout tag, and flashlight to Mass Separator Room.
2.The power supply is the large grey box located along the South wall of the MSR.
3.Close cut-out switch to stop AC current to the P/S and lock out the switch.
4.Open the door on the back of the power supply i.e. on the East side of the box.
5.The reset button is located deep inside the cabinet, approximately 2 feet above the level of the floor. A mark has been posted on the edge of the cabinet at the proper height. The reset button is located quite deep inside the cabinet amid numerous HV and high current electrical devices.
6.Once the reset button is pressed, close the cabinet door and remove the lockout, and open cut-out switch.
