40Ca energy change procedure

This procedure was written for DRAGON 40Ca experiment which was running in November 2005. It might be useful for a future similar situation. Date: Nov 17, 2005

"IO" stands for ISAC Operator and "DRA" stands for DRAGON

IO:

  • turn of the 35 MHz HEBT Buncher
  • set the request energy with the PRAGUE
  • rescale de optics
  • deliver beam to DRAGON

DRA:

  • set DRA:XSLITC:WIDTH = 1mm, POSITION = 0
  • set DRA:MD1 maximizing the beam on DRA:FCCH
  • ask IO for buncher ON

IO:

  • turn on the buncher (amplitude around 300)
  • set the buncher phase maximizing on DRA:FCCH (there are two phases 180 degrees appart, choose the one that gives the maximum current on DRA:FCCH)
  • set the buncher amplitude maximizing the beam on DRA:FCC (around 200)
  • deliver beam to DRAGON

The DTL is a variable energy LINAC composed by 5 accelerating tanks and 3 bunchers.

The tanks work at 0 degree phase. The bunchers work at -45 degree or at 0 degree.

The following are the characteristic maximum energy for each DTL RF device:

Tank 1 = 237 KeV/u

Buncher 1 = 254 KeV/u

Tank 2 = 439 KeV/u

Buncher 2 = 461 KeV/u

Tank 3 = 781 KeV/u

Buncher 3 = 803 KeV/u

Tank 4 = 1149 KeV/u

Tank 5 = 1530 KeV/u
