The DRAGON access interlock system has been commissioned. The system performs all of the functions itemized in the attached Design Note (the note can be found at    http://documents.triumf.ca/docushare/dsweb/View/Collection-156    ). There is no need to perform the administrative procedure of handing over the master DRAGON key to ISAC operations in order to deliver beam to DRAGON. Instead, DRAGON should be locked as described in the attached instructions, with the key inserted and turned in the new DRAGON ASU which has been installed near the area's access door.

The key can be released, again as described in the attached instructions, if any of the following three conditions is met.:

  1. ITE:FC7, ITW:FC5 and IMS:FC3 are all IN (ie RIB is off)
  2. IOS:B13 is closed (ie OLIS is on-line and there is no RIB to DRAGON)
  3. HEBT3:MB0 /MB1 dipoles are connected to TUDA (IE RIB is being directed to TUDA and not DRAGON)

Note: The way to switch to TUDA:

           - Go to EPICS page HEBT2,  turn off PID loop by click "on" button for both HEBT2:MB0 and HEBT2:MB1.

           - Turn off HEBT2:MB0 and HEBT2:MB1.

           -  On the pages magnetic Dipole HEBT2:MB0 (MB1), click HEBT3:MB0 (MB1) to switch to HEBT3.

           - Turn on the power (may need to use "soft start").

An ISAC Control Room 'DRAGON TRIP' alarm will occur if any unsafe configuration occurs: ITE:FC7, ITW:FC5 and IMS:FC3 will all be driven IN, turning off the RIB, restoring a safe configuration, and allowing the alarms to be cleared with an IBRMS reset.

A 'DRAGON TRIP' LED  has been added to the Control Room alarm box which already contains LEDs for the 'IBRMS TRIP'.

An EPICS display with detailed DRAGON and DTL safety interlock system infromation is under development.

DRAGON ACCESS and LOCK UP Procedures

ACCESS

  • If access interlock cinditions satisfy safe entry into the DRAGON area, the lED labeled ''OK TO RELEASE KEY' is illuminated.
  • if led is not lit when you wish access, contact ISAC Operations who will estabilish the proper conditions.
  • To access the area press the 'PUSH TI RELEASE KEY' button while the ''OK TO RELEASE KEY' LED is on.
  • The key is released for 5 seconds and the LED labeled 'KEY RELEASED' is illuminated this time.
  • While the key is released, turn it caounterclockwise and then remove it from the ASU.. The 'KEY RELEASED' LED will go out when the key is removed.
  • Insert the key into the transfer lock and turn it clockwise to release all DRAGON gate keys.
  • Remove the desired key and unlock its coresponding gate.
  • Enter the DRAGON area.

LOCKUP

  • In oder to deliver Radioactive Ion Beam (RIB) to DRAGON, the area must be inhabitated and locked.
  • To lockup the area, lock each access point's gate and remove its key while ensure that no one is left within the confines of the fence.
  • Insert all gate keys into the transfer  lock and turn each key clockwise.
  • Once all gate keys are in, the DRAGON ASU key can be removed from the transfer lock.
  • Insert the ASU key into the ASU key release unit and turn it clockwise until the key is "trapped".
  • A 'DRAGON LOCKED' signal is sent to the controller, which will then allow the safe delivery of RIB to the DRAGON area.
