ILE2:BIASTUBE Device Note

The bias tube is for use when polarizing Be+ directly (with Na and He cells removed). The tube must be removed during alkali beam operations.

One end of the tube is at a voltage set by ILE2:BIAS15. The other end is at a voltage = ILE2:BIAS15+ ILE2:BIASTUBE, ie. up to 10V higher. The purpose of the segmented tube, which stretches from the Na cell position to the He cell position, is to divide the ion beam energy into discrete, closely-spaced values. This is so all the ions interact with the laser.
